Beach in a Bucket

Bucket_Spade.jpg

Imagine lying on a beach; the sand warm from the midday sun; the smell of salt water and fresh air; the sound of  waves lapping against the shore.  What a relaxing time.   Who doesn’t enjoy going to the beach?

Unfortunately, children with some life-threatening illnesses can’t go to the beach.  That’s why The We Cancerve Movement, Inc. brings the beach to them with our “Beach in a Bucket” project.  We fill beach buckets with fun summer items that children might take to the beach.  Common items included in our  “Beach in a Bucket” are:

Sunglasses

Inflatable Beach Ball

Beach Toys

Sailboat Craft Kit

Bubbles

 Sand Art

Thick Thread to Make Friendship Bracelets

A Sand Dollar

A Seashell Craft

“Beach in a Bucket” is so popular that The We Cancerve Movement, Inc. has never hosted a stuffing party for this project; it’s been supported exclusively by groups who want to bring happiness to hospitalized children – especially those with serious illnesses and often in pediatric intensive care.  This project has been adopted by Girls Scout Troops, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties, Women’s and Youth ministries from churches in Ohio and Maryland, and alumnae chapters of national sororities. As of February 2022, We Cancerve has donated Beach in a Bucket kits to 384 hospitalized children in Maryland and Ohio.
